A "sign-nificant" assistant
Time was running out! The Alcan Boogey event was less than 8 hours away and I had just been recruited to create a 6' x 1.5' sign for this event honoring the 70th anniversary of the building of the Alaska-Canadian Highway (Alcan Highway). The surface I was using was a white plastic banner preprinted with a balloon border. I had just gotten my Artogrph 12 x 18 inch Light Tracer II Light Box. Whew! It saved the day! I generated the sign letters on the computer, printed them out and taped them, a segment at a time, to the Light Tracer. I then placed the banner material over my template and was able to trace the letters onto the sign with ease. Even with 2 layers between my final product and the light, I was able to see perfectly and work efficiently. Prior to the Light Tracer II you'd have found me struggling at the window trying to use the daylight to complete this task. What an awesome assistant! It made this project so much lighter! NOTE: The product was described well and met my requirements perfectly. Thanks Amazon!

Everything a cel repair could ask for
I collect animation cels, and sometimes have to deal with line fading and/or pinholes in the acrylic paint of the cel. However, the black lines are very fine and have to be back-lighted to find and repair. This mini light box is perfect for the task. The flourescent light inside is easily bright enough to spot "bald spots" on the cel and the entire box stays cool enough to prevent damage to the mylar sheets the cels are painted on. I did not one idiosyncracy. The box does not use an automatic ballast for the flourescent lights. One has to hold the rocker switch to the "light" position for at least 10 seconds to start up the flourescents. If the switch is not held down long enough, the bulbs will not light up. They may flicker a bit; but the won't light until the "off" switch is pressed to reset the circuit and the "on" or "light" side of the rocker is held down until the bulbs start to glow. They should then light up completely when the switch is released. The box is very light in weight and just about the perfect size for an 8.5" x 10.5" animation cel. Anything larger will have to be worked on in stages. It was delivered in a protective outer cardboard box, because the package box itself is a light enough weight to not withstand handling by the poast office. Overall, this was a very good purchase and well worth the price.

Surprisingly decent'ish
We had a big, old, clunky, steel-cased light table that worked really well, but was unmanageably big and heavy. This table was intended to be a supplement to it- something smaller for smaller work and something relatively portable to allow for relocation when necessary. As other reviews have indicated, it is NOT a tank- it is cheap plastic through and through. It flexes a bit when you press or lean on it and I really don't know how the housing would survive a four inch fall, BUT for the cost, it works fine. The backlight will not blind you by any stretch, but it is bright enough to carry through most work pieces. The light is better-distributed throughout the table than I thought it would be. Yes, there is a hot spot at the bulb location that cools toward the edges, but it's not bad. It is very light which is good if you don't leave it setup somewhere- light enough you can use it on your lap, although likely not recommended. I believe it is manufactured in the US, so that's a plus for those of us that love our country and try to think in domestically-sustainable terms!

Great investment- has many uses for a genealogist as well as an artist!
I bought this to make a watercolor map of Tokyo in the years 1948-1950. It's been an incredibly involved project- as finding maps from that time with the particular buildings on it that I need has been difficult. It is SO easy to use, and is quite bright, which is great for my poor eyes. I love it. I'm making the map to include in a scrapbook I made for my father who was in General MacArthur's Honor Guard stationed in Japan for 3 years. Over 2 years I sorted, laid out, and finished about 80 pages of photos, so I bought a MASSIVE amount of products/supplies to use in the endeavor. This item is, hands down, the single BEST investment of the entire project- I've laid difficult to read documents on it, and was able to make out things no one else could. (Came in handy on some discharge papers and other things from 1950.)

Very good, compact lightbox
As an artist coping with very little work space, I have been very pleased with this lightbox. It works well. Excellent for paste ups, very good for tracing. Wish I had space for a much larger one. Lightboxes are so helpful in the studio! I am updating this review: I purchased this Artograph LightTracer 2 Light Box several years ago. As of this date, Jan 2017, it is still working in perfect condition. As for how long the light bulb lasts--well, mine still works after all this time. However, I do not leave it on for hours at a time; I turn it off when I walk away from my work. I cannot, therefore, vouch for how difficult it might be to replace it.

I am really loving my Artograph! One advantage that was mentioned to me by a local artist is that it makes it so convenient to retrace your drawings and artwork that you become more adventurous and less fearful of taking chances and making "mistakes". I use my Artograph every week, sometimes multiple times a week. It is really nicely constructed. The light is really bright; you can easily see your drawing through watercolor paper. This was definitely worth the money I paid for it and honestly I wish I had of bought it ten years ago when I first wanted to get one. For me, using a window to trace my drawings does not compare; using a window as a lightbox is difficult because you put so much strain on your arm, especially with more detailed drawings. Yes it will work in a pinch, but an Artograph is a really nice long-term solution!

Just a simple, easy to use light box. The kid enjoys this light box for tracing, drawing and as a nightlight! Great value for the money as other boxes have been known to cost more.

I purchased this as an inexpensive alternative to more expensive light boxes. It's a little bulky, but works very well, and I love the option on the switch to dull the light to check out how the current drawing is progressing. It's very handy for finalizing designs for things like tattoo flash.
